Namaskar or namaste is a
traditional Indian greeting
from the ancient Sanskrit.
One translation (from
urbandictionary.com) is
    With all the depths and
charms of my mind and all
    the love and cordiality of
    my heart, the divinity
    within me greets the
    divinity within you.

Some people speak the word
with a gesture called
Añjali
Mudrā
or Pranamasana. The
slight bow—with "hands
pressed together, palms
touching, and fingers
pointing upward, thumbs
close to the chest"*—signifies
"I bow to the divine in you,"
but the spoken word alone
carries the same meaning.

    Once you bow down, your
    likes and dislikes become
    mild, not strong, because
    you recognize the source
    of creation within them.
    This is the intention
    behind doing namaskaram.

IF WE HAD NO FEAR we would follow our bliss, dance in fountains of love, scatter seeds of
abundance soon harvested and shared and celebrated. We would wash away all pain and
nourish all Creation. We would set a steady course, mindful of each moment and its
beauty and promise... never hurrying except to get out of God's way so that Divine Love
could flow through us unobstructed.... [So] we pray, "God, surprise us. Show us our
assignments. Attune our heartbeats to the planet's. Teach us how to help the angels who
    repair the world."  Fanny McElroy
